Legislation by Rep. Josh Cockroft

Legislation Authored by Rep. Josh Cockroft:

Ever since I began my first campaign in the summer of 2010, I have fought every day to bring accessibility and accountability to this office. I believe this is the best way that I can serve my constituents. Making sure that everyone is up to date and well informed in my district is a goal I strive for. In an effort to continue this practice, I have listed below a short explanation of each bill I have filed this year. I realize that we won't all agree on every issue, but I believe that as we work through each issue we can find solutions that benefit everyone. The most enjoyable part of my job is to talk with you and work through the things that you are concerned about while working towards a common goal; making Oklahoma better.

  2. Reducing appropriations to the Oklahoma Arts Council will have a direct negative effect on our economy as well oas our ability to retain and attract young professionals in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Arts and Culture are one of the TOP 3 things that young professionals look for when determining where they want to live. Jobs follow those young professionals, cutting funding for the organizations that create the arts and culture for our state results in brain drain and lost business opportunity. Things that our fragile state can not afford. Will you go on record stating support for legislation that will do that? This is non-debatable issue. Those points above are empirical facts.

  3. in addition the 2012 State of Oklahoma Budget was 6.4 B-b-billion dollars. The appropriation for this was 4 million. Eliminating the money for arts and culture can not be about the money.

Thank you for your contact and sharing your concerns! I really do appreciate it. I completely agree with you on the value of our Arts Council and all the good that it has and is doing for our State. Nothing in this bill would change that.
